Do you have a spare hour per week to help create safer learner drivers and safer communities? Then becoming a TAC L2P volunteer mentor might be for you!
The TAC L2P Program helps young Victorian learner drivers who don’t have a supervising driver or a vehicle to complete the 120 hours of driving experience they’ll need before taking their licence test.
A driver licence opens up new opportunities for education and employment. As a volunteer mentor you’ll contribute to your community by helping a young person take their next steps toward independence.
The TAC L2P Program is managed by the Department of Transport and Planning and delivered by community organisations across Victoria, who will work with you to:
· Match you with a learner driver
· Provide you and the learner with regular access to a learner-friendly car
· Arrange a program induction, coaching on best-practice driving supervision and the support of program coordinator in your local area

I have been a mentor for the L2P program for many years, starting in the Darebin area in the 2000’s when I was a Sergeant with Vicpol at Reservoir. Although now retired from VicPol, I am still keenly involved in the L2P program, now assisting in the Hume City Council area. It is a rewarding and wonderful program, which I enjoy doing and the pride you feel when one of your young drivers finally get their licence, is immense and fulfilling. I recently had a friend who is current serving Police member, who signed-up with the Whittlesea PSA and he is already enjoying the role. I strongly recommend to anyone who can spare the time, to sign-up and become a mentor – it’s good to give something back to the community and impart our knowledge upon others – especially the younger generation.
